JERUSALEM — The Israeli military said it targeted Hamas leaders gathered at a café in Gaza City on Tuesday evening, saying the figures were planning an operation against Israeli forces. The attack came a day after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with members of the Peace Council, including U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy Jared Kushner, to discuss the roadmap for a Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Gaza's Civil Defense agency said a separate Israeli strike on tents belonging to displaced people near Gaza port killed five people, including a child, and wounded 13 others. Al-Shifa Medical Complex confirmed it received the five bodies and the 13 wounded from that attack.
According to the military, the targeted Hamas figures had been planning operations against Israeli troops. The army added that Israel would continue to carry out operations in cases it defines as urgent threats to its soldiers in Gaza.
During the meeting with Peace Council representatives, Israel reiterated that it would retain freedom of military movement inside Gaza as part of the ceasefire framework under discussion.
