Iraqi Prime Minister Calls on Private Sector to Join Million-Housing Project

BAGHDAD, Iraq — BAGHDAD — Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Fahl al-Zeydi called on businessmen and companies to participate in a national project to provide one million housing plots, saying partnership with the private sector was essential to developing infrastructure and supporting the housing sector. Al-Zeydi made the remarks during a high-level meeting with governors and provincial council chairpersons. He also pressed for continued consolidation of weapons under state control, saying this would strengthen stability and improve the investment climate in the country. The prime minister called for anti-corruption investigations to extend beyond low-level officials to senior figures in government projects, and demanded careful review of cost estimates for public works. Al-Zeydi further instructed that revenues from border crossings and service fees be directed to support municipal services, including electricity, water and other utilities, with an emphasis on strengthening self-financing projects.
