BAGHDAD, Iraq — The subdistrict administrator of Baghdadi in Anbar province has rejected social media claims linking the death of a 30-year-old woman to electricity shortages in the area. In a statement, Issam, the Baghdadi subdistrict head, said preliminary information indicated that Ayser Rebah Hindi al-Amiri took her own life after a marriage proposal was rejected, not because of power outages. Issam added that al-Amiri had informed her family about the situation before carrying out the act. The denial came on the same day that social media pages circulated threats of suicide attempts by young people citing deteriorating electricity services, though those claims have not been confirmed by official sources.
