Iraqi PM urges deeper South Korean investment across energy, industry sectors

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falah al-Zeydi met South Korea's ambassador to Iraq, Li Jun-il, in Baghdad on Tuesday and reaffirmed his government's interest in attracting additional South Korean investment. According to a written statement from the Prime Minister's Office, the meeting included the delivery of a letter from South Korean President Lee Jae-myung congratulating al-Zeydi on forming his new government. The statement said the letter affirmed both countries' commitment to deepening bilateral relations and partnership, safeguarding mutual interests and cooperating to overcome international economic challenges. During the talks, al-Zeydi stressed the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation across several sectors, particularly energy, investment and technology. He said Iraq is ready to draw on the experience of South Korean companies already operating across the country and is encouraging further investment in areas where South Korea holds a competitive edge, such as the automotive and electronics industries. The prime minister also pointed to government efforts to improve the investment climate and pursue economic reforms.
