Iraq's higher education ministry announces tuition discounts for state universities

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has announced a new framework of tuition discounts and exemptions for students at state universities, including those enrolled in morning studies and those admitted through the morning international channel. Under the rules, students covered by social protection and top-performing students will receive a 50% tuition discount, while siblings enrolled together will receive a 10% discount. In the parallel education channel, the top 10% of students by grade average will receive a 50% discount, the second 10% will receive 40%, and the third 10% will receive 30%. The regulation applies to students admitted in the 2024-2025 academic year and earlier. Students already enrolled in the international channel will continue to be exempt from 50% of their fees, the ministry said. The ministry also confirmed that previously granted discounts and exemptions remain in force for top-graded students, siblings, students under social protection, top-performing high school graduates, and students studying in English at Baghdad College.
