Iraqi military intelligence detains five suspects in Anbar ISIS raid

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi Military Intelligence Directorate said five people were detained in a raid on a house previously used by ISIS in the Rawi district of Anbar province. In a statement issued Monday, the directorate said the operation was carried out by the Intelligence and Security Branch of the 7th Infantry Division under the direct supervision of the director of military intelligence. The house had served as a "finance unit for Muslims" before the area was liberated from ISIS, the statement said, and was used to store money distributed by the group under the name of "zakat." Five suspects apprehended in the raid were referred for legal action under Article 1/4 of the Counter-Terrorism Law. Items seized included cash, promissory notes, weapons, ammunition, religious publications containing extremist content and various food and medical supplies, according to the directorate. No further details were immediately available.
