Iraqi military intelligence captures senior ISIS official in Anbar

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Military Intelligence Directorate said on June 13, 2026, that it had captured a senior ISIS figure operating in the Al-Qaim district of Anbar province. In a written statement, the directorate identified the detainee as "Abu Musab," the group's so-called financial and administrative official for its Euphrates wilayah. According to the statement, security forces carried out the preventive operation based on intelligence leads and took the suspect into custody. Investigators determined that he was responsible for distributing regular payments and material support, referred to as "kafala," to ISIS members and their families. The directorate said the detainee was the subject of an arrest warrant under Article 1/4 of Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Law and that legal proceedings against him had been initiated. Authorities added that operations targeting terrorist cells would continue as part of efforts to strengthen stability in the country.
