Iraqi military intelligence arrests terror financing suspect in Saladin

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Military Intelligence Directorate said on Tuesday that a suspect wanted on terrorism financing and money laundering charges was arrested in Saladin province. The directorate said the operation was carried out by intelligence and security units of the 14th Infantry Division in coordination with security forces. The suspect was detained during an operation in the Sharqat district of Saladin, according to the directorate's statement. He is accused of financing a major terrorist organization and had been under monitoring for an extended period, the statement said. According to the directorate, the suspect was among the most wanted individuals under Article 36 of Iraq's counter-terrorism financing and anti-money laundering law, which carries a final ruling against him. Legal proceedings have been initiated and the investigation is ongoing.
