Iraqi military intelligence arrests ISIS 'Euphrates province' financial chief in Anbar

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Military Intelligence Directorate said its forces captured a senior Islamic State (ISIS) figure responsible for the group's financial operations in the so-called "Euphrates province" during an operation in Anbar province. According to a statement from the directorate, units of the Intelligence and Security Section attached to the 7th Infantry Division carried out the operation in coordination with the Al-Qaim Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism Section. The operation was based on precise intelligence, the statement said, without elaborating on the location or timing. The detained man, identified by the code name "Abu Mas'ab," served as the primary official in charge of "kafala" — a system the group used to distribute salaries and financial support to its members and their families in the Euphrates province. The directorate said he managed payments transferred to ISIS elements and their relatives.
