Iraqi lawmaker calls for political dialogue to complete Kirkuk government

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A lawmaker from the Azim Alliance in Iraq's parliament said progress on completing Kirkuk's local government could be made once the new legislative term begins. Muthanna al-Samarrai, head of the Azim Alliance's parliamentary bloc, said the alliance backs steps to strengthen political consensus and resolve pending issues in the province. Al-Samarrai said negotiations among local parties over the cabinet are aimed at reaching agreement on partnership and balance. He stressed the need to prioritize a language of dialogue to secure administrative, security and service stability in Kirkuk, and to allow the local government to carry out development programs. The lawmaker also called for strengthening a genuine national partnership among all components across Iraq. Kirkuk Governor and Iraqi Turkmen Front head Mohammed Seman Aga met al-Samarrai and the accompanying delegation at Kirkuk International Airport, according to the statement, with talks held on the city's current situation during the visit.
