Iraqi General Arrested in Corruption Investigation

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Lt. Gen. Ahmed et-Tayyar, the deputy responsible for security at Iraq's National Security Office, was arrested Thursday in connection with multiple corruption investigations, according to security sources. The sources said et-Tayyar was taken into custody following inquiries into corruption allegations linked to files under examination within the National Security Office. He was subject to more than one corruption probe, the sources added. Lt. Gen. et-Tayyar was responsible for coordinating the security units operating under the National Security Office. The corruption files are being handled within the framework of financial audit and transparency investigations underway across Iraqi public institutions.
