Iraqi anti-corruption body arrests Maysan municipality employee for bribery

AMARA, Iraq — Iraq's anti-corruption commission, the Federal Integrity Commission (Heyetü'n-Nezâha), coordinated an operation in which security forces arrested a municipality employee in Amara, the capital of Maysan province, for allegedly accepting a bribe. The suspect, who worked in the violations unit of the Amara Municipality, was taken into custody after receiving illicit funds, according to a security source. The operation was carried out following intelligence gathering and field surveillance, the source said. Authorities seized material evidence at the scene and prepared an official record in accordance with procedure. The detained employee was referred to the judiciary for the completion of the investigation and legal proceedings. The Federal Integrity Commission said anti-corruption operations would continue.
