Iraq wins Jordan court ruling ordering compensation for Samarra drug factory

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Ministry of Justice said its legal department has secured a ruling from Jordanian courts ordering a Jordanian company to pay compensation to the Samarra General Pharmaceuticals and Medical Supplies Factory, a state facility under the country's Ministry of Industry and Minerals. The ruling, issued by the Jordanian Court of Cassation and upheld by both the Court of Appeal and the court of first instance, requires the company to pay a specified sum to the Iraqi factory. According to the ministry, the dispute stemmed from a contract signed between the Samarra factory and the Jordanian firm for the supply of medical-material caps. The ministry said the Jordanian company failed to honor its contractual commitments and delivered materials that did not meet the required specifications. Heysem Muhyi Radi, director of the ministry's legal department, said Iraqi state interests were defended throughout all stages of the proceedings. The ministry added that the outcome reflects the ongoing follow-up and litigation work carried out by its legal department. No further details on the amount of compensation were immediately provided.
