Iraq to see high weekend temperatures; Basra forecast at 47°C

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Meteorological Organization said temperatures across the country will remain high through the weekend, with Basra expected to reach 47°C on Saturday. Saturday's weather will be clear, with temperatures similar to the previous day, the agency said. On Sunday, light to moderate northwesterly winds are expected, with occasional stronger gusts during the daytime likely to raise light dust. Monday will remain mostly clear, with a slight drop in temperatures nationwide, according to the forecast. For Tuesday, the agency said light dust is expected in eastern parts of the central and southern regions due to wind activity, while temperatures will rise slightly in central and northern areas and hold steady in the south compared to the previous day. Saturday's forecast highs were listed as 36°C in Sulaymaniyah, 37°C in Duhok and Mosul, 38°C in Erbil, 40°C in Anbar, 41°C in Kirkuk and Diyala, 42°C in Baghdad, Saladin, Karbala and Babil, 44°C in Najaf, Wasit, Diwaniyah and Maysan, 46°C in Dhi Qar and Muthanna, and 47°C in Basra.
