Iraq seizes 51 kg of Captagon pills in Baghdad operations, arrests two suspects

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's General Directorate for Drugs and Psychotropic Substances seized 51 kilograms of Captagon pills in two separate operations in Baghdad and arrested two suspects, including a citizen of an Arab country, the directorate said in a written statement. According to the statement, the directorate's Special Investigation and Secret Surveillance units carried out the operations as part of intelligence and preventive work. The suspects had been placed under surveillance over their alleged involvement in drug trafficking and distribution. Officials confirmed that the 51 kilograms of Captagon were found on the suspects. Legal proceedings have been opened against those detained, and their case files have been referred to the relevant judicial authorities for the completion of the investigation. The operations took place as Iraqi authorities continue their wider campaign against narcotics smuggling across the country.
