Despite the expansion of poultry projects in Iraq, markets continue to show a clear price gap between locally produced eggs and imported eggs, highlighting pressure on domestic producers and the risk of market imbalances. Agricultural expert Ahmed Saadi said higher feed prices, energy costs, transport and veterinary services have all pushed up the cost of local production. Saadi added that low productivity in production projects, limited use of modern technology and the absence of a cold chain have also increased costs. He warned that large-scale imports could weaken local producers, while a total ban on imports would be passed on to consumers. He called for inspection mechanisms that would protect domestic production while maintaining market stability. Saadi also urged support for production inputs to help reduce costs and preserve the balance between supply and consumer prices.
