Iraqโs National Security Service said it uncovered an oil smuggling line more than 500 meters long in Basra. The operation came after investigation and judicial approvals identified an organized attempt to steal crude oil on the Basra-Dhi Qar road.
Officials said an underground pressure pipe had been connected to the main transmission line and used to siphon oil. During the operation, security forces seized two tankers, one loaded with crude oil and the other waiting to be used for shipment.
The confiscated materials were handed over to the relevant authorities and legal procedures were launched, the service said.
