Iraq says it dismantled two child exploitation networks, rescued victims

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Interior Ministry said two human trafficking networks involved in child exploitation were dismantled in Baghdad and other cities, with all members of the networks taken into custody. In a statement released Tuesday, the ministry said the Anti-Human Trafficking Department, which operates under the Federal Intelligence and Investigation Agency, carried out the operation after obtaining judicial approvals and acting on documented intelligence and field surveillance. The ministry said the child victims were rescued and provided with protection and care within the legal framework. It added that the suspects have been referred to the relevant judicial authorities for legal proceedings. The ministry said operations aimed at dismantling human trafficking networks and eliminating the sources of such crimes would continue. It described protecting children and safeguarding their rights as a security and humanitarian priority.
