BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi government spokesperson Haydar al-Abbadi said on Sunday that completing the cabinet lineup depends on agreement among the country’s political forces, even though 14 ministers received a vote of confidence last month. Speaking to reporters, he added that the process of filling the remaining portfolios has not yet been finalized. Al-Abbadi described the centralization of weapons in state hands as an internal decision aimed at reinforcing stability by establishing a secure environment. He said the move is also intended to revive Iraq’s economy and create conditions conducive to investment. Prime Minister Ali al-Zawini is scheduled to travel to Washington on Monday for talks with US President Donald Trump and senior American officials. The visit is expected to include meetings with executives of US companies. According to the spokesperson, the discussions will focus on energy, economy, investment, development and education, building on the Strategic Framework Agreement between Baghdad and Washington.
