BAGHDAD, Iraq โ A criminal court in Nineveh province sentenced an ISIS member to death on Sunday, the Iraqi Higher Judicial Council said. The court found that the defendant had converted a blacksmith workshop on Mosul's left bank into a storage site for light and medium weapons, explosive devices and explosive materials.
According to the ruling, the defendant took part in assassinations targeting security forces and military convoys, in which multiple officers and personnel were killed. The court also tied him to a 2021 car bombing in the Ta'mim neighborhood on Mosul's left bank that killed four civilians and wounded others.
The ruling further stated that the defendant participated in the attack on Mosul and the storming of Badush Prison, during which detainees were freed and a number of inmates were killed. The Higher Judicial Council said the death sentence was issued under Article 4, paragraph 1, in conjunction with Article 2, paragraphs 1, 3, 5 and 7, of Iraq's 2005 Anti-Terrorism Law, No. 13.
