BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani has issued a series of decrees replacing the heads of several key security, financial and economic institutions, in what officials described as the broadest reshuffle since the government was formed.
Under the orders, Basim Badri was named national security adviser, replacing Abu Ali Basravi, who moved to head a newly established anti-corruption support committee within the prime minister's office. In the financial sphere, Nezar Nasir was appointed governor of the Central Bank, succeeding Ali Allaq. Adel al-Yasiri took over as head of the National Investment Commission, replacing Haydar Mekki.
Ahmed al-Sharmani, a member of parliament's Integrity Commission, said the appointments represented an important step toward institutional reform. He added that the newly named officials could make a tangible difference in their respective fields given their expertise, and that the legislature would monitor the results closely while upholding transparency and accountability.
Officials said the performance of the affected security and economic institutions in the coming period would serve as the benchmark for assessing the success of the changes.
