Iraq's PM al-Zaydi meets Iran's Pezeshkian in Tehran, vows no threats from Iraqi soil

TEHRAN, Iran — TEHRAN — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani's government envoy, Ali Falah al-Zaydi, met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran on Thursday during an official visit, with both sides emphasizing joint security coordination. According to a statement from the Iraqi Prime Minister's Office, al-Zaydi said relations between Baghdad and Tehran rest on a shared security foundation and that no threat against Iran would be allowed to emanate from Iraqi territory. The talks covered the work of the joint economic commission, border security, investment opportunities and regional developments, the statement said. Al-Zaydi also recalled Iran's support for Iraq in the fight against ISIS, without providing further details. Pezeshkian thanked the Iraqi people for their stance at the funeral procession of late Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and said security and stability contribute to joint development, according to the statement. Before departing Baghdad, al-Zaydi had announced on social media that he would hold meetings with senior Iranian officials.
