BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Iraq's Interior Ministry has permanently dismissed 38 officers for corruption and desertion, while 180 personnel were removed from service in line with court rulings, the ministry said on Monday. Brigadier General Mikdad Miri, head of the ministry's Media and Relations Department, said in a written statement that an additional 3,245 personnel were discharged for evading duty. Miri said the dismissals were part of strict measures applied during the first 100 days of the current government, targeting staff whose involvement in administrative and financial corruption had been confirmed. He added that the ministry was committed to strengthening institutional discipline and protecting security agencies from corruption. According to the statement, no individual found to be involved in corruption would be shielded from accountability. The ministry said safeguarding security institutions from corruption and enforcing discipline were essential to building a professional security structure that earns public trust.
