BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Supreme Hajj and Umrah Commission said on Wednesday that all Iraqi pilgrims have been safely brought back to the country, completing a comprehensive return plan carried out despite exceptional conditions in the region.
The commission said in a written statement that the air and land return operations proceeded in line with pre-arranged plans, under the direct oversight of commission head Sheikh Sami al-Masoudi and in coordination with relevant Iraqi and Saudi authorities. It added that transport for the pilgrims was maintained without interruption until they reached their home cities and towns.
According to the statement, the success of the return operation reflected the administrative, medical and guidance services the Iraqi hajj mission provided throughout the season on the ground. Pre-prepared contingency plans and measures helped the mission respond to sudden developments in the region, the commission said.
The commission also credited cooperation with Saudi Arabian authorities and Iraqi support and security units for the smooth handling of the hajj season and the return phase. No further details on the number of returning pilgrims or the routes used were immediately available.
