BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Central Bank has rejected as fake a document circulating on social media that purported to show a planned change to the dinar's exchange rate. In a statement, the bank said the document, claimed to have been submitted by the Prime Minister's office to Parliament's Finance Committee, proposed setting the dollar rate at 1,600 dinars. The bank confirmed it had identified the forged paper in circulation and urged the public not to act on misleading information.
The Central Bank said only statements issued through its own official channels should be considered credible. It called on media outlets and citizens to disregard unverified information from unofficial sources.
The bank's denial comes amid a prolonged political dispute over the dinar's exchange rate. The dinar has been trading at around 1,300 to the dollar in recent weeks, with parallel market rates diverging from the official rate. No further details on the source of the forgery were immediately provided.
