BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraqi lawmaker Mohammed Ali al-Nuaymi announced that the Ministry of Agriculture has granted official approval for fish produced in Kirkuk to be marketed in Baghdad and other cities. He said fish farmers in Kirkuk had long sought permission to sell their products outside the province and that the request was raised with the agriculture minister because of its importance in supporting farming projects and easing producers' financial burdens.
Al-Nuaymi said the farmers' request was approved after discussions with the relevant departments, clearing the way for Kirkuk-produced fish to be sold legally in Baghdad and other urban markets. He added that the decision will be implemented in line with health and veterinary regulations to ensure product safety and orderly distribution.
The lawmaker said opening new markets will support local production, encourage investment in fish farming and reduce losses caused by limited marketing options. He added that the step is expected to strengthen economic activity, create additional employment and increase fish supply in Iraqi markets, contributing to food security.
