Iraq steps up security to curb new encroachments on state land

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Security Media Cell said security forces have taken preventive measures to stop fresh encroachments on state-owned land and curb the spread of existing violations. Cell chief Saad Maan said deployments have been reinforced in areas where violations have been attempted and that field monitoring is ongoing. Maan said coordination with relevant state institutions is in place to enforce legal and administrative procedures, and that the steps have prevented new violations from emerging and existing ones from expanding. He stressed that encroaching on state land is a criminal offense under Iraqi law and that forces are pursuing judicial action against violators in coordination with judicial and government bodies. He added that documented cases of encroachment are being handled within the established legal framework to protect public property and uphold the rule of law. Maan warned that anyone who uses weapons, threats or force to obstruct security forces or relevant agencies in carrying out their duties will also face legal action, and that removal operations are being carried out within approved legal procedures while safeguarding public safety and the security of state assets.
