BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Deputy Oil Minister Nasir Aziz said the associated gas recovery project at the Halfaya oil field in Maysan province is operational, processing about 190 million cubic feet of gas per day. Aziz said the volume contributes significantly to the country's overall gas recovery capacity and is channeled into the national grid from existing production lines.
The Halfaya field allows the country to capture natural gas released under high pressure during crude oil production. Aziz said technical work across the field has been completed and that gas recovered from current production lines is being fed into the national grid.
The project is aimed at reducing Iraq's reliance on imported gas and fuel, according to the deputy minister. The government plans to expand similar gas recovery facilities across other oil fields as part of efforts to use energy resources more efficiently, Aziz said, adding that daily recovery at Halfaya has remained steady and supports the country's energy supply security.
