Iraq Prepares 350-Megawatt Power Barge for Launch in Basra

The Electricity Ministry said a southern production unit director supervised connection work for a power-generating barge in Basra, as Iraq prepares to bring the unit online within days. The 350-megawatt barge is expected to strengthen the electricity grid’s generation capacity. The Turkish barge was moved from Umm Qasr Port to Khor Al-Zubair Port for final preparations ahead of activation. Officials said the remaining work is focused on completing line connections and ensuring technical coordination. The ministry said the project is being advanced to allow the barge to start operating in the near term. It is intended to add electricity supply to the network once the connection procedures are completed. The director of the South Electricity Transmission Company also followed the field work and managed coordination between the generation and transmission teams. The goal is to finish the work within days after the final technical steps are completed.
