Iraq PM Ziyadi reviews plans to strengthen air defense capabilities

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi Prime Minister and Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Ali Ziyadi on Sunday reviewed plans to restructure and enhance the readiness of the country's air defense system, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's media office. The meeting was held at the Air Defense Command headquarters in Baghdad. Ziyadi was joined by the head of the Commander-in-Chief's office and the army chief of staff. The discussions focused on plans to increase Iraq's capacity to protect its airspace and assert sovereignty over it, the statement said. Participants also called for accelerating the delivery of advanced systems to the Air Defense Command under contracts signed with foreign companies. Officials said the deliveries would contribute to completing the country's air defense infrastructure and enabling more effective monitoring and control of Iraqi airspace.
