Baghdad police arrest mother and two daughters in killing of husband-father

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Police in Baghdad have arrested a woman and her two daughters in connection with the killing of the woman's husband and the girls' father in the capital, the Rusafa division of the Baghdad Police Command said. A police source said the two female suspects had been detained under Article 406 of the penal code on suspicion of murder. According to a statement from the command, the suspects had been wanted on charges of killing the man together with his daughters. The mother later confessed during questioning that she killed her husband on Dec. 22, 2025 with the help of her two daughters, the source said. The account given to investigators stated that the victim was first drugged into unconsciousness while sleeping, then doused in petroleum and set on fire. Police said the woman and her daughters remained in custody as the investigation continued.
