Iraq PM receives families of two security officers killed in Dora, Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi received the families of two security officers killed while on duty in Baghdad's Dora neighborhood on Sunday, his office said. The officers were Brigadier General Hisham Muhammad Tella al-Salman, who served as director of the Baghdad Karkh side police, and Commissioner Khalid Abbas Lifta. During the meeting, al-Zaydi described the fallen officers as "the light of the homeland" and told the families that the government would stand by them, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Press Office. He also pledged that those responsible would face the penalties prescribed by law and that justice would be served. The prime minister directed that all forms of support be extended to the families of the two slain officers, that their ranks be posthumously promoted, and that their needs be met, the statement said. The measures were described as recognition of the sacrifices made for the security and stability of the capital.
