BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani received the families of two police officers killed in an armed attack in the Dora district on Baghdad's Karkh side, the Prime Minister's media office said.
The officers were identified as Brig. Gen. Hisham Muhammad Talla al-Salman, director of the Karkh police branch of the Interior Ministry, and Commissioner Khalid Abbas Lifta al-Fawali. Both died in the armed attack, according to the statement.
Al-Sudani told the families that the fallen officers represented the honor of the nation and that their loved ones remained "at the heart of the state." He said those responsible would be brought to justice under the rule of law.
The prime minister ordered that all necessary support be extended to the families, that the needs of the officers' children be met, and that each officer be posthumously promoted to the next rank.
