Iraq PM orders investigation into attack on Barzani's Erbil office

BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Fallah al-Zaydi has ordered an investigation into an attack on Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani's office in Erbil. A written statement from the Prime Minister's Office said al-Zaydi directed the formation of an investigative committee to identify the sources and origins of the attack.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, the attack also struck the residence of the head of the Kurdistan Region's intelligence agency. Al-Zaydi called for the results of the investigation to be released to the public as quickly as possible and for all details of the assault to be clarified. The office added that efforts would be made to identify those behind the attack.
The targeting of the office and residence in Erbil has brought security coordination between Iraq's federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government back into focus. The Prime Minister's Office did not provide additional details on casualties, the type of attack or its perpetrators.
