UK and US condemn drone attack on Kurdish PM Barzani's office in Erbil

ERBIL, Iraq — The United Kingdom and the United States condemned an airstrike on the Erbil office of Masrour Barzani, prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government. The British Consulate said it had called on all parties to de-escalate and reaffirmed support for stability in the Kurdistan Region. US Ambassador Tom Barrack issued a sharp condemnation of the attack, describing Kurdistan as a reliable ally and saying the strike posed a direct threat to regional stability. Barrack said Washington would not tolerate such hostile acts and backed Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi's efforts to restore Iraq's full sovereignty, including placing all weapons and security forces under the authority of the Iraqi state. According to Erbil's counter-terrorism unit, the drone that targeted Barzani's office was an Iranian-made unmanned aerial vehicle. The statements from London and Washington were among the first official international reactions to the attack.
