BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” The head of Iraq's Border Crossings Authority, Omar al-Waili, chaired a broad meeting in Baghdad on Tuesday with department directors from all border ports, focusing on improving institutional performance and strengthening oversight mechanisms. Al-Waili described the continued rollout of advanced electronic systems and cross-checking of data as a core element in combating irregularities and fraud. The meeting also reviewed preparations for receiving Imam Hussein pilgrims, support for local products and efforts to increase state revenue. Al-Waili instructed border authorities to conduct comprehensive electronic checks of cargo and shipping documents, weight records, sonar imagery, customs declarations, exemption letters, certificates of origin and dispatch orders. Officials were directed to step up coordination with local administrations to raise service quality. Authorities said unauthorized vehicles and individuals would be barred from entering control areas, and that commercial activity would not be permitted without proper legal authorization. The authority said it would continue to uphold transparency and effective oversight, backed by the government and relevant security agencies. No further details on implementation timelines were immediately available.
