Iraq launches app to let users measure mobile and internet service quality

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq’s Communication and Media Commission has launched a mobile application, CMC Speed Test, that allows users to measure the quality of mobile and internet services from their own locations, the commission’s Executive President, Belig Abu Kallel, has announced. According to the announcement, the app records technical data including download and upload speeds, ping, jitter and packet loss, as well as network type, operator information and radio signal indicators. Technical teams can analyze speed data alongside radio indicators such as RSRP, RSRQ, SINR and RSSI to identify the causes of poor performance, including weak coverage, radio environment issues and network congestion. The platform also includes an administrative dashboard that displays measurement results on interactive maps, sortable by operator, region and technology in use. Users can view coverage levels at their location and submit service-quality complaints directly through the application. Abu Kallel said the app functions as an independent data infrastructure supporting the commission’s oversight and decision-making processes, rather than serving solely as a speed-test tool. The commission plans to match user complaints with technical measurements from the same area to pinpoint locations requiring intervention.
