Iraq Expects 5 Million Tons of Wheat Output in 2025-2026 Season

Iraq’s Agriculture Ministry expects wheat production to reach 5 million tons in the 2025-2026 season, a level officials say will keep the country on track toward self-sufficiency. The forecast underscores the scale of Iraq’s domestic wheat program and its continued effort to reduce reliance on imports. Agriculture Ministry official Mahdi al-Jubouri said wheat has been planted across about 8 million dunams of farmland nationwide. He said the projected output would keep Iraq on the path to self-sufficiency. Al-Jubouri added that Iraq would meet its wheat needs for a fourth consecutive year. The ministry’s estimate points to sustained production capacity in one of the country’s most strategic staple crops.
