Iraq Authority Orders Immediate Halt to Crime TV Programs

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Communications and Media Authority ordered an immediate halt to the production and broadcasting of all crime-related television programs, according to a statement issued Monday. The Authority said the programs violate the presumption of innocence, display criminal details on screen, dramatize offenses, and include footage of suspects during interrogation and questioning. Officials said the broadcasts negatively affect judicial proceedings and pose social and educational risks. The regulator called on media organizations to report criminal and security information solely from official sources. The decision takes effect upon official notification to media outlets. The Authority said the measure aims to protect judicial independence and ensure the public receives accurate information.
