BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Interior Ministry said security forces arrested two suspects who attacked a traffic police officer in central Baghdad's Karrada district. The ministry said the incident was recorded on a street camera and the footage spread on social media, prompting Deputy Interior Minister Hussein al-Awadi to personally oversee the investigation.
According to the ministry, a security team formed on al-Awadi's orders tracked down and detained the suspects within a short period, referring them for judicial proceedings. Officials confirmed the attack occurred in Karrada and said the suspects have been placed in custody with legal measures underway.
Al-Awadi said no attack or aggression against police personnel would be tolerated and that the prestige of the security forces would be preserved. The ministry added that anyone who assaults its personnel will be held accountable under the law.
