Iraq arrests cleric in Najaf robbery, three ISIS suspects in separate operations

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi authorities arrested two suspects, including a cleric aged 50 to 60, two days after they robbed a currency exchange in Najaf and stole 30 million dinars, a security source said. In a separate operation, Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service, coordinating with its Sulaymaniyah unit, detained two ISIS members in Sulaymaniyah and Salahaddin provinces. The same force also arrested another person in Anbar province in an unrelated operation and detained a drug dealer in Muthanna, opening legal proceedings against him. Separately, the Salahaddin Police Directorate said officers saved a young man from a suicide attempt after he climbed the Malwiya monument in Samarra. Initial findings indicated the man was driven to the act by family disputes and severe psychological pressure, the directorate said, adding that the individual has been provided with the necessary support and placed under official care.
