BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's government has approved Iran's request for the transfer and funeral of the remains known as Shahid Shingal, Government Spokesperson Haider al-Abbudi said on Monday. He said the cabinet endorsed the arrangements for transporting the body and holding the ceremony, adding that official protocol will be observed during the event.
Al-Abbudi said relevant security units have been instructed to manage crowds and implement security measures for the ceremony, which is planned for July 8. Preparations are underway and final details are expected to be finalized in the coming days.
The issue of the Shahid Shingal remains has been a long-standing topic of diplomatic discussions between Baghdad and Tehran. Iraqi officials said coordination for the funeral is proceeding within the framework of understandings between the two sides.
