Iraq appoints new operation commanders for Baghdad, Diyala, Saladin and Basra

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi Prime Minister and Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Ali Ziaidi issued new appointments at security commands in Baghdad and three other provinces on Saturday, a source said. According to the source, Brigadier General Ali Majdi was transferred from his post as head of the Organizational Department at the Defense Ministry to lead the Diyala Operations Command. Brigadier General Kamil Saleh Mohammed moved from deputy commander of Baghdad Operations to head the Saladin Operations Command, while Brigadier General Asir Rabii was assigned as Basra Operations Command commander after commanding the 20th Division. Earlier appointments included Brigadier General Ali Abbas Mansoud al-Lami as head of the Military Training Department at the Defense Ministry, Brigadier General Sadiq Risan as deputy commander of Maysan Operations, and Brigadier General Ahmed Shammari as commander of the Iraqi Army's 8th Division. On Thursday, Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Yarallah appointed Brigadier General Arkan Jamil al-Mayahi to lead the 16th Division. Prime Minister Ziaidi has carried out a series of personnel changes across military, security and intelligence positions in recent weeks.
