Iran says US deal implementation talks to be held in Qatar

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran's Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that implementation of a memorandum of understanding signed with the United States will be discussed in Qatar. A deputy foreign minister is scheduled to travel to Doha the following day to meet Qatari officials and review the memorandum's provisions. The ministry said progress had been made on lifting the embargo covered by the memorandum and on exempting Iranian oil from sanctions. It added that, under Article 13, the start of talks on a final agreement depends on the implementation of several provisions, starting with a halt to the war in Lebanon. Tehran stressed the importance of establishing a mechanism to monitor the conflict in Lebanon and said it was following the matter closely. The memorandum, signed on June 18, 2026, sets out the lifting of a maritime blockade, the restoration of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and a 60-day negotiation timetable on Iran's nuclear program.
