WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — The United States has spent roughly $30 billion on military operations against Iran, White House Budget and Management Office Director Russell Vought told a congressional hearing. The figure exceeds estimates the Pentagon reported in May, when acting director of financial operations Jules Hurst put the cost at close to $29 billion. Vought said the updated total reflects revised calculations for equipment repair and replacement costs, as well as broader operating expenses for U.S. forces in the region. According to the office, the amount does not include repair costs for U.S. bases damaged in Iranian counterattacks. Independent estimates from the Center for Strategic and International Studies put the war's overall cost, including infrastructure damage, between $34 billion and $42 billion. The Trump administration has previously asked Congress for $87.6 billion in additional funding, a request that includes resources tied to Iran operations. No further details on congressional action were immediately available.
