KARBALA, Iraq โ Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in the holy city of Karbala on June 28, 2026, to discuss preparations for the funeral of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to the Karbala governorate's press office. Governor Nasif Jassim al-Khattabi received the minister upon his arrival in the city.
The Karbala visit followed Araghchi's trip to Baghdad, where he held talks with senior Iraqi officials. He met Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaydi and reiterated Iraq's position that wars must be ended and crises resolved through dialogue, according to the governorate's statement.
Araghchi also held a meeting with Iraq's foreign minister, during which the two officials reviewed bilateral cooperation files and regional developments. No further details on the funeral arrangements or the timeline were immediately available.
