TEHRAN, Iran — Iranian authorities executed two men on Monday following their convictions for an armed incident in Tehran earlier this year. The judiciary identified the executed individuals as Mehredad Muhammedi Nia and Ashkan Maleki.
The two men were convicted of arson at the Jafari Mosque in Tehran’s Koy-i Nasr district and for causing damage to public property. According to the judiciary, the defendants confessed to the charges during open court proceedings and reenacted the events at the scene.
Security camera footage was used as evidence to secure the convictions, which included the seizure of the defendants' assets. The Supreme Court upheld the death sentences after the completion of all legal review processes.
