The International Atomic Energy Agency cannot account for Iran's uranium stockpiles after inspectors were unable to access Iranian nuclear facilities following airstrikes in June 2024, according to an agency report. The IAEA said Iran has not informed the agency about the fate of all its stocks, including low-enriched and highly enriched uranium. Verification capabilities for nuclear materials, including uranium enriched up to 60 percent purity, have been lost for approximately one year. The report said the loss of continuity of knowledge over all nuclear materials jeopardizes compliance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and raises proliferation risks. The agency said the issue must be addressed as soon as possible. The June 2024 airstrikes targeted Iran's nuclear sites. Inspectors have since been unable to access those locations. No further details were immediately available.
