Houthis say drone struck Aramco refinery in Saudi Arabia’s Jizan; no casualties reported

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Yemen’s Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said on Sunday that an unmanned aerial vehicle struck an Aramco refinery in the Saudi city of Jizan in the country’s south. Saree said in a recorded statement that the drone hit its target "with precision" and described the operation as a response to Saudi Arabia violating the airspace of Yemen’s Saada and Hajjah governorates with its own drones. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy said on Sunday morning that industrial security and firefighting teams affiliated with Aramco had extinguished a fire at one of the facilities at the Jizan refinery and that there were no casualties. In a statement posted on X, the ministry said Aramco’s industrial security teams continued to take the necessary measures to address the effects of the incident. The Houthis have carried out a series of drone and missile attacks on Saudi Arabia since the kingdom joined the war in Yemen in 2015. Most have been intercepted by Saudi-led coalition air defenses, though some have caused damage at oil and industrial sites. No further details on the extent of damage or possible disruption to refinery operations were immediately available.
