BASRA, Iraq โ Yemeni media reported on Friday that explosions were heard in the city of Marib, with Ansar Allah forces, commonly known as the Houthis, launching ballistic missiles and drones at targets inside the city. Local outlets, citing a military source, said air defense systems belonging to government forces intercepted some of the drones in Marib's airspace.
Coalition spokesman Brigadier General Turki al-Maliki said on Thursday that an earlier attack on southern Saudi Arabia injured 11 civilians in the Najran region: seven Saudis, one Yemeni, two Egyptians and one Pakistani. Al-Maliki warned that the Houthis could carry out coordinated attacks in the near future with Iranian-backed Iraqi armed groups, adding that the strike targeted the internationally recognized Yemeni government supported by the coalition.
The latest Houthi attack comes amid rising regional tensions that have also affected maritime traffic in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Basra.
